Music by Georges Bizet & libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy
Sung in French with Creole-infused French dialogue and English supertitles
Dialogue by Sara E. Widzer and Dr. Jean Elie Gilles
Be there to witness history as Opera Orlando presents a premiere production of Georges Bizet’s fiery masterwork Carmen. Critically-acclaimed maestro Kelly Kuo makes his Opera Orlando debut and conducts musicians from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, with Sara E. Widzer also making her Company debut, directing this original production set in the politically tumultuous and culturally provocative arena of 1960s Haiti. The seductive and treacherous world of Carmen comes to life onstage at the spectacular Steinmetz Hall with a stellar cast led by mezzo-soprano Briana Hunter in the title role with tenor Nathan Granner as Don José. The production also features members of the Opera Orlando Chorus and Youth Company.
Sung in French with creole-infused dialogue and English supertitles.
