Enjoy a musical extravaganza like no other: Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus: The Revenge of the Bat onstage at Walt Disney Theater. It will be quite the party as Eisenstein’s long-time friend Falke exacts revenge upon Eisenstein for a prank played many years earlier which left Falke stranded in the center of the town square, in a bat costume, drunk and utterly humiliated, (hence, “The Revenge of the Bat.”) Falke’s intricate plan of getting back at his best friend involves a masquerade ball hosted by the eccentric Prince Orlofsky, multiple disguises for almost all of the cast, and magnum bottles of champagne galore, not to mention some good old vaudeville hi-jinks thrown in just for fun. The champagne will flow freely as a harmless prank escalates to hilarious comic effect. Enjoy a night of delight, chock full of special guests and surprise appearances.
Argentinian born maestro Jorge Parodi returns to the Opera to get the party started, with artistic director Grant Preisser directing a socially-distant send-up of Strauss’s comedic farce. Soprano Abigail Rethwisch makes her Opera Orlando debut as the captivating Rosalinda, joined by Grammy award-winning baritone Gabriel Preisser as her less-than-faithful husband Eisenstein. Soprano Cree Carrico also makes her Opera Orlando debut as the feisty chambermaid Adele, with the husband and wife duo of Sarah Nordin and Tyler Putnam taking on the roles of Prince Orlofsky and Police Warden Frank respectively.
Sung in English with English dialogue and supertitles. A pre-show lecture is offered free for all ticket holders 45 minutes prior to each performance, featuring the conductor and stage director.
